Acorn provides the full array of Home and Community-based Services, including:
HCS group home residential support, day habilitation, and host home/companion care for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities across the Houston area.
Acorn’s Group Homes are safe, comfortable homes in typical community neighborhoods. Trained Direct Care Staff provide the least restrictive supports necessary to ensure each individual experiences safety, security, and supportive care.
Acorn’s houses are furnished and maintained to a high standard of quality. Individuals are supported to decorate and personalize their bedrooms, while common areas are decorated and furnished with comfort in mind. Staff assist residents as needed with personal care, which includes bathing, medication administration, dressing, grooming, meal-planning and preparation/cooking, transportation and behavior supports. Each person served is supported and encouraged to develop and maintain social skills and function within the community.

The Day Habilitation Center provides an enriched day activity program for people served. We have two centers, in Houston, TX and now in Cypress, TX. Classrooms and activity groups are designed to engage people and promote learning. Individualized options include sensory integration, employment readiness and job search training, academic mastery (reading/writing/math), arts & crafts, current events, physical exercise, and socialization skills improvement training.

Acorn screens, contracts, and trains caring Host Home Providers who provide surrogate family environments for people served. Host Home Providers provide support and supervision, assistance with personal needs, behavioral supports, and more in their own homes, based on each individual’s needs and desires.
